| IEEE 802 LANs/MANs |
The Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers (IEEE) is a professonal representation organization based in the USA but with a world-wide membership. The IEEE undertakes a number of standardization activities through various committees. The IEEE 802 Local Area Networks/Metropolitan Area Networks (LANs/MANs) Committee is responsible for the standardization of LANs and MANs. The activity of the IEEE 802 Committee is structured as a series of Working Groups and Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs). This breakdown is shown schematically as Figure 1.

The 'Status' values refer to:
- Active - undertaking standards activity
- Disbanded - all standards withdrawn or did not publish a standard
